Report: Bulgaria "Has Met All EU Recommendations on N-Plant Safety"

Antonio Madonna, head of the special European Union mission that was in Bulgaria to carry out a check on units 3 and 4 of the country's only nuclear plant in the town of Kozloduy, has acquainted the members of the Atomic Questions Group with the EU with the results of the check.

A well-informed source of the Bulgarian National Television claimed that Madonna has said that Bulgaria has met or is working on all of the recommendations EU has made on the safety of the nuclear plant and units 3 and 4 in particular.

Earlier in the month the special peer review on the nuke it was announced that all EU recommendations concerning its safety have been met.

The closure of the two oldest units at the end of last year came after many years of concern over their safety, strong pressure from the European Union, protests from the nuclear lobby and opposition parties that the reactors are economically necessary.
