US troops captured the private secretary of Saddam Hussein's long-term deputy in an operation, aiming at catching his head as Washington's partners fretted over troop deployments in Iraq. Saad Mohammed al-Duri was captured near Hawijah in the day in which rumors flew that his boss, Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri, had been arrested or even killed. At least one US soldier was killed in the two bomb attacks, which struck military convoys north of Baghdad near the site of Sunday fight. Then US military announced that 54 Iraqis were killed. Residents said Monday that the casualty figure was much lower and that the dead were mostly civilians.
