Italy Stays in Iraq Despite Deadly Bombing

World | November 13, 2003, Thursday // 00:00

Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has said his country would not be deterred by the deadly bomb attack on the Italian headquarters in Iraq, which claimed the lives of 18 Italians and about a dozen of other people. Italy remains committed to helping Iraq rebuild and form a government in "security and freedom", Berlusconi has said. Meanwhile, however, Japan stated it would put off sending its troops to Iraq until 2004 because of the security situation. Wednesday's drama was the single biggest loss of life for a non-US coalition member since the start of the war in Iraq in March.
