At least 25 people, of which 17 Italian police officers, have reportedly been killed in a truck bomb attack on the Italian headquarters in the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriya. A number of other Italians, as well as local Iraqis, are said to have been injured in the powerful explosion which partially destroyed the building. There are also concerns that more people may be trapped under the ruins. A total of more than 2,000 Italians have been sent to Iraq to help with post-war reconstruction efforts. They serve under British command in southern Iraq as part of the US-led coalition. Until Wednesday, they had suffered no combat-related fatalities.
