The International Committee of the Red Cross is temporarily closing its offices in Baghdad and the southern Iraqi city of Basra, a spokesman says. Florian Westphal said the ICRC was concerned for the safety of its staff in what he described as an extremely dangerous and volatile situation. A car bombing at Red Cross headquarters in the Iraqi capital last month killed 12 people and shocked aid agencies. The attack prompted the ICRC to reduce its foreign staff. In continuing violence, two US soldiers have been killed and one wounded in the volatile town of Falluja, west of Baghdad, the US military says. The soldiers died when their vehicle hit a roadside explosive device.
