`Germany is the country where most Bulgarians want to immigrate. The United States follows Germany, data of the National Statistical Institute shows. 23% of the Bulgarian immigrants go to Germany, 19% to the United States,` Iordan Kalchev, Chief Secretary of the Central Counting Commission reported. 8% prefer to emigrate to Greece and Spain, 6% to Italy and Great Britain, 5% to Canada and 4% to France. `The external migration influences the number of the population,` Iordan Kalchev pointed out. The huge immigration wave began in 1989. In the beginning, the migration was caused by political reasons. Later the reasons became economic. The data from the survey show that 8% from the Bulgarian population, with age in the range of 15 to 60 say that it is `probable to a certain extent` or `very probable` to go to live abroad.
