Dozens of residents and guests of Bulgaria's capital Sofia flocked together at the special exhibition marking the 100th birth anniversary of eminent artist Zlatyu Boyadzhiev.

The exhibition was opened by the country's Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg and was also joined by a number of Boyadziev's fellow-masters, who seemed pleased to see many of his masterpieces gathered at the same gallery. The paintings have been collected from a number of galleries in cities across the country as well as from private collections.

Boyadzhiev, who was born in the village of Brezovo, did not give up painting to the very end of his life in 1976, despite a heavy brain hemorrhage he suffered in 1951. After the misfortune, which paralyzed the right part of his body, Boyadziev started using his left hand in his artist's work, and meanwhile traveled around Europe to get inspired and create one of his most breath-taking works.

Many of them could be enjoyed at the exhibit that will take place at the Shipka 6 Gallery in Sofia till November 6.
