Palestinian PM Seeks Approval for Cabinet

Newly appointed Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia started down the road of handling US and Israeli demands to crack down on militants while avoiding internal conflicts, as Palestinian lawmakers prepared for a vote of confidence on his emergency Cabinet. On Wednesday, Qureia presided over the first meeting of his eight-member emergency Cabinet, which in principle can govern for one month. Qureia said that he would seek parliament approval for the ministers on Thursday, turning them into a regular Cabinet, and that he hoped to broaden his government eventually.
