Hurricane Juan downgraded to a tropical storm early on Monday but it killed at least one person and caused more than 100,000 people to lose power when it hit the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Juan weakened after slamming Nova Scotia during the night with winds of up to 90 miles per hour. A state of emergency was declared in Halifax, one of Canada's largest ports, and some residents were evacuated from their homes. Flights in and out of Halifax were also cancelled.
