MASSIVE LAY OFFS AT THE TRANSPORT MINISTRY

`On October 5 all heads of directorates at the Ministry of Transport and Communications were offered to resign, yet we will consider the performance of all 15 directors and some of them may preserve their jobs,` Zdravko Velichkov, Deputy Transport Minister said. He declined to specify names. The lay-offs were explained with the right of the minister to shape up his own team. From October 15, the number of directorates will be reduced. 257 employees will remain at their jobs. There will be no changes in the Information Technologies Directorate,` Daniela Kerekova, Head of the Minister`s office said. The transport ministry reduced the benefits and resources, which used to be extended to the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company, the Bulgarian State Railways, the Air Traffic Management the sea ports and airports by some 30%. `The managers of these state owned companies will no longer enjoy company cars and cellular devices They will also have to reduce to the possible minimum their business trips abroad and will have to present a report on their overhead costs each month. An exception will be made just for CEOs and General Directors,` Kerekova reiterated.
