Iraqi Governing Council member Akila al-Hashimi was in a "critical but stable" condition after a second operation for gunshot wounds, while her colleagues were split over whether Saddam Hussein loyalists or foreign militants tried to kill her. Douglas Brand, chief adviser to the Iraqi police for the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) said Hashimi was under the care of top American doctors at an unspecified US military facility.
