S Korea Typhoon Toll Rises

Officials in South Korea say at least 84 people are now known to have been killed in the most powerful typhoon to hit the country in a century. Twenty-five people are missing after Typhoon Maemi crashed through towns and villages, with winds of up to 216 km/h, officials said. The army is helping with rescue operations and helicopters are delivering relief supplies to flooded areas. Thousands of people were forced to leave their homes and seek shelter in schools and public buildings. Typhoon Maemi swept across the south of the country on Friday, causing landslides and extensive damage.
