A 33-year-old Indonesian has been sentenced to death for organising the Bali bomb attacks which killed 202 people last October. Judges said the charges against Abdul Aziz, commonly known as Imam Samudra, had been conclusively proven. Imam Samudra let out an animated cry of "God is great" as the verdict was read out, and was still shouting as police led him from the court. In August, another suspect, Amrozi, was convicted and sentenced to death by the same Balinese court. The prosecution had argued that Imam Samudra was in control of the operation on the ground, selecting the targets in Bali and assigning roles to his fellow militants. Shortly after his arrest, Imam Samudra admitted his role to police but later retracted that confession. He now denies the charges against him but said in court that he thinks the Bali bomb attack was justified.
