In 2002, 10,000 officers and sergeants will be laid off,`Defense Minister Svinarov announced. The 2002 annual governmental program for NATO accession was approved at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Committee for Bulgaria`s Integration in the Alliance. The Bulgarian Prime Monister Saxe-Coburg chaired the committee`s meeting. Till October 31, the program is to be sent for approval in Brussels. Apart from the lay offs, many border troops will be cut. The goal of the program is Bulgaria to have an army, able to fight against terrorist actions. `It is obvious that after September 11, we do not change our military doctrine and national security concept without considering the changed international situation, ` Defense Minister Svinarov said.
