About 80 people have been killed as a car blew up outside the Tomb of Ali in the Iraqi city of Najaf during main weekly prayers. Iraq's best-known Shia politician, Ayatollah Mohammed Baqr al-Hakim, is reported to be among the dead. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack in Najaf, one of the holiest shrines for Shia Muslims. A power struggle has been going on within what is known as the Hawza - the Shia religious establishment based in Najaf, correspondents of international agencies say. On Sunday, three people were killed there in an assassination attempt on a leading Shia Muslim cleric.
