At least 40 people were killed and dozens more were injured after two powerful explosions struck the Indian city of Bombay, local officials said Monday. One of the explosions occurred in a car park near the historic Gateway of India monument in the south area of the city, which is a popular site for tourists, policemen said. The blasts shook buildings and telephone lines in the city were jammed as panicked residents called family and friends. There are also reports of two other blasts in the city. It has been prey to a string of deadly explosions since December 2002. However, it was not immediately clear who carried out the latest attacks.
