Ismail Abu Shanab, a senior leader of the Palestinian militant group Hamas was killed in an air strike in Gaza City as Israel exacted revenge for a massive suicide bombing. At least two other people have died as pilots targeted the car of Shanab, witnesses say. Shanab was often described as the group's third-in-command. Hamas promptly called off its three-month ceasefire, announced along with other factions on June 29, which had been effectively shattered by the Jerusalem suicide bombing on Tuesday.
