Europe's most ancient well was discovered this summer near the Bulgarian village of Katuntsi, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) said Saturday.
A team of Bulgarian and French archeologist who have been studying the ancient settlement near Katuntsi for 17 years made the discovery, BNT said.
At first a variety of painted ceramics and the walls of the buildings at the settlement aroused scientists' interest. Then they discovered the well that was surrounded by solid buildings.
Katuntsi is located near the Bulgarian town of Sandantski in the southwestern part of the country.
