As the summer of 2003 is drawing to its end Sofia's capital main shopping Vitosha Boulevard is flooded with discounts. As you walk on the street all you see are large shop windows with even larger signs screaming "-50% SALE"!

This is the temptation that each Bulgarian needs to enter these shops that are usually empty and quiet. When it is SALES time those shops are turned into a "battle field". You have to fight in order to enter, then you have to be prepared for all kinds of mean tricks that your "rivals"-the other customers-can make.

After having made strenuous efforts I managed to enter one of the luxurious fashion shops in Sofia: "Terranova", which is visited mainly by teenagers. In a while I was holding shirts, skirts and all other things that a woman thinks she needs. Imagine my surprise when I decided to try all my findings and there in front of the fitting room I saw a crowd of girls waiting in a line...

Every single one of them was holding a bundle of clothes in her arms and they all seemed so pleased with their treasures " at half a price". The girl in front of me was a bit bored as I noticed so I started a conversation on the sale's topic.

She turned out to be an expert in this field! I understood that the sales in "Terranova" were not as advantageous as these in "Mango", which is just across the street. So I made up my mind: I was going to "Mango"!

"Mango" is one of the most luxurious fashion shops in Sofia that offers a large range of trendy clothing for every taste, but unfortunately not appropriate to the pocket of most of the Bulgarians.

However, it was SALES' time so there I was in "Mango". Despite the quietness in the shop I could notice the strange glimmer in the eyes of the people. Glimmer that appears in the eyes of all people glad of having achieved something grand in their lives. In this case finding great clothes at great prices...You must admit it's quite a deal!

Having visited one or two shops is not enough; after all it is sales' time. You spend as much as you can or cannot. You go to United Colours of Benetton, Max Mara, Dika, everything you can think of!

It is an irrefutable fact that Bulgarians remain among the poorest nations in Europe and sales are probably the only time they could afford to buy some trendy clothes. These clothes usually cost the average monthly salary in Bulgaria, which is around EUR 135. For example a linen shirt at Mango costs some EUR 80 or almost two thirds of the average salary of most of the Bulgarians.

So, if you want to renew your wardrobe with trendy and modern clothes, now is the right time for you to do it. But beware - you might need some working up in the gym to prepare yourself for the "fashion battle."
