A bomb exploded outside a bank in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Wednesday, wounding 31 people, police said. The bomb was planted on a bicycle parked outside a local branch of the State Bank of India in the town of Bandipora, about 40 miles north of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu-Kashmir state. Eight of the wounded were believed to be in serious condition, police said. The wounded included five paramilitary soldiers who were on a patrol. It was not immediately clear if the paramilitary patrol was intended to be the target. The area where the explosion occurred is a busy part of town. Police said they suspected separatist rebels, though no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
