2 000 POLICEMEN TO BE DEPLOYED FOR NATO SUMMIT

`A 2,000-strong police force from the Sofia Directorate of the Interior Ministry will guard during the summit meeting of the state leaders of the countries applying for NATO membership on October 5,` the Interior Ministry Press Center announced. Central headquarters will coordinate the activities of the Interior Ministry national services and regional structures to ensure normal conditions and prevent disturbances before and during the forum. The Interior Ministry is taking all necessary measures to guarantee security and smooth proceedings, the press center said. Security tasks will be performed by all officers of the Sigma motorized unit, a mounted police squadron, officers leading service dogs and officers of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior. During the summit of the Vilnius 10, the National Service will tighten the security of the diplomatic missions of the NATO countries in Sofia. Tighter passport and visa control will be exercised at all border crossings, including the checkpoints at the Sofia, Varna and Burgas airports. The Sofia municipality has allowed a rally of protest against Bulgaria`s future accession to NATO, which is to be held in the South Park on October 5. The rally is organized by the Civic Initiative Committee.
