`An integrated information system involving the Customs Agency, the Interior Ministry and other institutions will accelerate checks on imported cars when there are suspicions they were stolen,` Dimitur Terziev, expert at the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, told BTA. From January to September 2000, 106,000 new and used cars were imported. Their number exceeded 100,000 during the first nine months of 2001. Taking into consideration, the large number of imports, there are quite a few attempts for transiting stolen cars. Stolen cars are most often intended for the former Soviet republics: Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Armenia. `There have been attempts to register new limos in Bulgaria with forged documents,` Terziev added.
