Judges at the war crimes tribunal in The Hague are preparing to deliver their verdict in the case of former Bosnian Serb doctor Milomir Stakic who was accused of genocide. Prosecutors have asked for a life sentence for 41-year-old Stakic, claiming that he helped create the notorious prison camps in north-west Bosnia where thousands of Muslims and Croats were imprisoned, tortured, raped and killed in 1992. However, Stakic pleaded not guilty to all eight counts against him and defence lawyers insist that he had nothing to do with the crimes. To date, the court has handed down only one genocide verdict -- to Bosnian Serb general Radislav Krstic who was convicted over the Srebrenica massacres and sentenced to 46 years in prison.
