Strong Quake Hits Southwest China

A strong earthquake has shaken southwestern China, killing at least 11 people and injuring more than 200, local officials have said. The magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit Yunnan province -- about 2, 253 kilometers southwest of Beijing -- late Monday, destroying more than 800 homes and damaging over 13,000 others, according to local authorities. Twenty-three people are in a serious condition, said an official from the disaster relief office of Dayao County where the quake was centered.
