A special monument named "Ilinden" was installed in Bulgarian capital Sofia as people in the country mark Sunday the 100th anniversary since the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising broke. The uprising was preceded by the Berlin Congress decision in 1878 on fractioning Bulgaria.

The anniversary was also celebrated with a festive mass in Bulgarian capital Sofia's Holy Trinity district. The initiative came from the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO) in Bulgaria.

The Ilinden-Preobrazhenie uprising was named after the Holy prophet Ilia who is honored on the same day. Bulgaria's Kresna-Razlog Uprising (1878-1879) was another act of protest against decision of the Berlin Congress and in 1885 led to the unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia.
