Sharon Meets Abbas on Sunday

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is to meet his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas in Jerusalem on Sunday. The two leaders are to discuss the implementation of the internationally backed "road map" peace plan. Palestinian sources said Abbas was expected to push Sharon to release more Palestinian prisoners being held by Israel. Palestinian militant groups have declared a three-month truce but they are demanding the release of all 6,000 prisoners. Sunday's talks will kick off a week of diplomacy in which Abbas and Sharon will make separate trips to Washington to meet U.S. President George W. Bush.
