US Troops to Stay in Iraq Indefinitely

US troops are to stay in Iraq indefinitely, according to army officials, cited by international agencies. The ongoing security problems mean that some 9,000 troops from the US army's 3rd Infantry Division will remain in the country. They were expecting to go home within the next two months. Since the end of hostilities was officially declared on May 1, 33 US soldiers have died in attacks by alleged former regime loyalists.
