Sofia's Ballet Prima Donna Loses Contract over Playboy Session

Society | July 5, 2003, Saturday // 00:00

The Sofia Opera did not renew the contract of its ballet prima donna Masha Ilieva allegedly pinched by her Playboy photo session.

The contract that expires every year on June 30 was automatically renewed last year. For two years, Ilieva is the art director of the ballet company and one of the few dancing directors in the world.

"No one called to tell me," the prima donna repeated in any of the string of interviews she gave on the issue.

According to her, the last year was very difficult for the ballet company. She insisted on making the session in a bid to popularize the ballet performances in the opera house. She features on the cover of the latest Bulgarian-language issue of Playboy.
