Slavi's Joke: Happy Birthday!

Society | July 4, 2003, Friday // 00:00

Car stealing, drug trafficking and prostitution were the only profitable businesses that flourished in a small Bulgarian town. The whole economic might of the town was in the hands of three brothers - Guele, Choko and Nachko. Former champions in wrestling with strong will and iron fists; all three of them had the spirit of entrepreneurs.

But behind their heavy features, the tender hearts of humanists were hidden.

When their mother turned 80, they were so moved that they gathered together to decide what to give her as a present.

Gele scratched his head and said:

"My present will be a three-floor villa with air-conditioning, swimming pool and fitness saloon so that she lives in luxury."

"You are perfectly right", Choko said. "When I come to think of it I am what I am thanks to this woman. That ‘s why I will buy her a Mercedes."

Nachko, who was the youngest of the three brothers, was so moved by the generosity of his brothers that tears came to his eyes. He wiped clean his sunglasses and said:

"I will give her something for the soul. Mummy is a very religious person, she is old and blind and cant' read the Bible. But I found her a USD 30,000 parrot. He knows the Bible by heart. You tell him the number of the page and he starts talking."

The three brothers sent the presets to their mother and a month later they received a letter from her, which read:

"Dear kids,

Thank you very much for the presents. The house and the car are great but I am too old to swim in the swimming pool or drive the Mercedes. To be honest I liked the bird best - I have never tasted anything more delicious!"
