Mars Probe Launch Delayed Again

World | June 30, 2003, Monday // 00:00

The US space agency (Nasa) has delayed the launch of its second Mars rover until Wednesday night at the earliest as it tries to fix a problem with the rocket's insulation. A fresh launch attempt will be made at 2317 local time on Wednesday (03:17 GMT on Thursday). Nasa said the blast-off scheduled for Saturday evening was scrapped because of high winds at Cape Canaveral in Florida. The latest delay came after engineers found that the cork lining in the first stage of the Boeing Delta II rocket was not sticking to the vehicle's aluminium skin.
