US, EU Leaders to Meet in Washington

US and EU leaders will hold their annual summit in Washington, aiming to soothe transatlantic tensions over the Iraq war, politics and trade disputes. The meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the White House, where President George W. Bush will meet European Commissioner Romano Prodi and Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis, whose country holds the revolving presidency of the EU.The two sides will sign two agreements -on extradition and legal cooperation -which are intended to reinforce the fight against terrorism. The summit will kick off negotiations on a broad US-EU air transportation agreement that will replace several bilateral accords between various EU member nations and Washington.
