Russia's President Vladimir Putin, PM Mikhail Kasyanov and other top officials joined celebrations of Russia's Independence Day Thursday at Moscow's Famous Red Square. For the first time in forty-seven years military jets fly over the Kremlin palace. As the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 Russia became independent and formed the Commonwealth of Independent States together with Ukraine and Belarus which is joined by all former Soviet republics except the Baltic states.
