`Approximately 10 % of the employees in the government administration will be made redundant in the beginning of October, `members of the government said before their regular meeting on September 27. `From 30,000 people, involved in the government administration, less than 3,000 will be made redundant,` the Finance Minister said. `The staff of the Economy Ministry will be reduced from 681 to 611,` Economy Minister Nikolay Vassilev said. `Some units of the ministry and its agencies might recruit extra personnel - the important thing is to make the government mechanism more efficient,` Vassilev added. `800 Finance Ministry officials, including employees of the ministry agencies, will lose their jobs, ` Finance Minister Milen Velchev said. The Health Minister said that about 90 jobs from the ministry will be cut. Transport Minister Plamen Petrov is cutting 29 jobs in his ministry. He added that the ministry staff increased with 20 % in the last five or six years. `The personnel cuts will lead to nearly 10 % savings in the wage bill`, the ministers commented. `Wages are not the biggest item in the government budget and bigger savings will be made for office space, which is the case with the Economy Ministry,` Economy Minister Vasilev said.
