Buildings rattled around the Algerian capital as the third major aftershock in less than a day and a half struck the north African country, officials said, putting a nervous populace further on edge. The tremor measured 5.8 on the Richter scale, the state seismological institute said, equal to another quake late on Tuesday which brought already shaky buildings crumbling to the ground and injured some 300 people. State radio did not give any information on damage or injuries from the quake, which hit at 3:15 am (0215 GMT) and was centered in Zemmoria, some 70 kilometers (45 miles) east of Algiers. It was followed within six minutes by two further tremors, one measuring 3.7 and the other 4.2, seismological officials from the CRAAG institute said. The Zemmoria region was devastated by a massive quake one week ago, which killed 2,200 people and injured nearly five times as many.
