Israeli troops pulled back to the edges of a Palestinian town in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, despite five suicide attacks that killed 12 Israelis in 48 hours and endangered a U.S.-backed Mideast peace initiative, AP reported. The town is in a border area which Israel said it wanted to hand over to Palestinian security control as a proving ground for new Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas' commitment to the peace "road map" and its call to disarm and arrest gunmen.
