UN Warns on Aid Work in Gaza

Israel's virtual closure of the Gaza Strip may force the United Nations to halt aid operations in the Palestinian territory, the organisation has warned. Terje Roed-Larsen, the UN special envoy for the Middle East peace process, said the "drastic" restrictions in place at the Erez crossing had stranded UN workers on either side of the border. A senior Israeli official said that attacks by Palestinian militants had prompted the decision to seal the border with the Palestinian territories but he suggested a solution could be reached within days.
