According to international environmentalist organization Ecodefence, the transfer of 20 tons of radioactive wastes from Bulgaria to Russia was planned in the beginning of June, Russian news provider RBK reported.

The wastes are projected to be processed by a plant in Russia's Chelyabinsk district. The deal is said to be worth USD 12.5 M. Besides this sum, Bulgaria will have to pay USD 130,000 to cover transport expanses.

"All Bulgarian nuclear wastes are unprofitable in economic terms and ecologically dangerous as well as illegal," the chair of Ecodefence Vladimir Slivyak said. The organization called on the Russian authorities to interfere and stop the deal.
