China's Leaders Move to Reforms

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao have pledged to forge ahead with economic reforms, in their first public comments since being appointed. Mr Wen, 60, whose main task is to oversee China's economy, told a news conference that rural living standards had to be raised and that unemployment was a continuing concern. Mr Hu stressed that "only socialism can save China", but that continuing reforms would be an important job.
