A US army Black Hawk helicopter carrying 13 soldiers has crashed in upstate New York. The aircraft went down near Fort Drum, military officials said. At least two people are reported to have survived and there are believed to be a number of fatalities. Jefferson County official Greg Burnelle said there were "critical injured people". Fort Drum is home to the 10th Mountain Division and it has been a staging post for soldiers on their way to the Gulf for a possible war with Iraq. The Black Hawk UH-60 was reportedly on a training mission when it lost radio contact with Fort Drum shortly before 1400 local time (1900 GMT). A spokesman said that the helicopter went down not far from the base and that a rescue team was at the scene.
