Turkey's PM: US Won't Change

Turkey's prime minister said Sunday his country's "friendly relationship" with the United States would not change despite parliament's rejection of a proposal to let 62,000 U.S. troops operate from Turkish bases and ports in the event of a war with Iraq. "Our friendly relationship of mutual understanding with the United States will go on," Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said shortly before meeting with his Justice and Development Party. "One should not limit it to a motion." Turkey's parliament adjourned Saturday after an initial vote showed 264 lawmakers favoring the measure -- three fewer than needed for passage -- with 250 opposed and 19 abstaining.
