Turkey Seeks Parliament Approval for U.S. Troops Deal

Turkey's government agreed on Monday to seek parliamentary approval for U.S. troops to deploy there for a possible attack on Iraq, but said a final deal on terms with the United States had yet to be sealed. The cabinet also gave notice that any vote on allowing an estimated 30,000-40,000 troops to deploy in Turkey for a possible "northern front" against Baghdad could produce a stormy debate. Feeling against a war runs high in the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and in the general population.
