Bulgaria: German Discount Store KiK Opened a Second Store in Romania, but Delays Debut in Bulgaria

The year 2019 had to come up with a stir in the market of cheap clothes, shoes and household goods with the introduction of the KiK and Pepco chains on the Bulgarian market. In the autumn of last year, it became clear that the German discounted merchant KiK plans to open its first stores on the markets in Romania and Bulgaria.

Then the company confirmed to Money.bg that in 2019 it will open 10 sites in Bulgaria. In our northern neighbor, KiK already has one store, and in the next few weeks is to open a second one in Bucharest. According to information from the local Business Review on Wednesday, the site will be located in one of the shopping centers in the capital, the Liberty Center, and will be 600 square meters. KiK's first store in Romania opened in September last year in Oradea, near the Hungarian border.

In Bulgaria, however, the German chain postpones its debut at least until 2020. According to information from the company, confirmed to "Capital", the company will not appear on the Bulgarian market this year. However, in the coming months, we can expect the first objects of the other chain of budget clothes and home goods - that of the Polish Pepco. In October, the company announced that by the end of 2021 they plan to open 60 stores in Bulgaria. The first ones have to work next month, and by the end of July their number should reach 11.

Pepco has over 1,500 retail outlets in 10 countries in the region, including Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Hungary and the Czech Republic. It offers children's, men's and women's clothing, underwear, accessories, home textiles and more. German KiK has 3564 sites in Europe, with 2579 of them on the largest European market. Its employees are 26,852 people.
