Pakistan's air force chief, Mushaf Ali Mir, has been killed in a plane crash in a remote north-western region of the country. The Fokker aircraft, carrying 17 people, is said to have come down in bad weather in the northern Kohat district. "There were no survivors," a military spokesman said. A number of other senior officers were on board. Rescue teams have been sent to the crash site. The cause of the crash is not yet known, but according to senior officials it appears to have been an accident. Military sources said radio contact had been lost as soon as it entered the mountainous region. The deputy chief of the Pakistan Air Force, Syed Qaiser Hussain, has been appointed acting chief of the air force, a spokesman said.
