Bulgaria: Over 50% of Emergency Care Staff in Gorna Oryahovitsa File Resignations

27 medical staff members of the emergency centre in Gorna Oryahovitsa, more than 50% of the entire staff, have submitted their resignations, said Dr. Valentina Hadzhiradeva, director of the emergency medical centres in the Veliko Tarnovo region, quoted by Focus Radio.

The applications are seen as a one-month notice if the demands for a considerable change in the working conditions remain unaddressed. The medical staff are outraged at recently growing attacks by patients. The health minister promised to allocate money for the appointment of guards at the local emergency unit, something that has not happened anywhere in the country until now, said Hadzhiradeva. The medics also want a panic button for each member of the emergency teams, a change of the security firm, and an information campaign on when and how one should seek emergency help.
The centre in Gorna Oryahovitsa serves five municipalities and an average of 60,000 people a year.
