Bulgaria's Dafovska Gains More Biathlon World Cup Lead

Sports | February 16, 2003, Sunday // 00:00

Former Olympic champion Ekaterina Dafovska widened her lead in the overall World Cup competition even after Martina Glagow (GER) climbed to the second place of the competition with a total of 516 points.

Dafovksa has garnered 568 points, while her main competitor Sylvie Becaert of France has 504.

A day earlier Dafovska finished 5th in a Biathlon World Cup 7.5km sprint event in Oslo-Holmenkollen.

The Bulgarian had 84 points ahead of her competitor Sylvie Becaert.

This could have been Dafovska's new victory was it not for a miss in the shooting. Sylvie Becaert's performance was poor enough to rank 20th.

The Bulgarian finished 33 seconds after the winner Sandrine Bailly (FRA), who was followed by Albina Akhatova (RUS), Martina Glagow (GER), and Svetlana Tchernoousova (RUS).

Pavlina Filipova (BUL) finished just three seconds after Dafovska.
