Hundreds Stranded as Eurostar Breaks Down

Hundreds of passengers were stranded for five hours when a Eurostar train broke down near London. The cross-channel operator believes that an air pipe fractured, causing the braking system to fail. Some became so desperate that they smashed windows to let in fresh air. The company eventually despatched a fleet of taxis to take people home or put them up in hotels for the night.
