Bulgaria: Health Workers Protest in Athens

Members of the national union of state hospitals in Greece organized a protest in front of the finance ministry's building against austerity measures, Kathimerini reports.

After refusing to meet with Finance Minister Evlidis Tsakalatos, the protesters tried to enter the building but were pushed away by the police using tear gas.

Demonstrators are opposed to staff cuts and cuts in work allowances that are usually paid to hospital staff.

The protest was joined by the members of the ADEDI civil servants, who had banners with the inscription "Ministry of Poverty" in front of the building.
