The Security Council with the Bulgarian government will hold a meeting on 30 of March to discuss the case with the Russian former double agent Sergei Skripal and hear the Bulgarian Ambassador in Russia Boiko Kotsev, the government’s press office said on 29th of March.
The Skripal case will be discussed at the meeting.
The Security Council is headed by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and includes members of the government, heads of the special services and representative of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Political reactions to cabinet moves continued in Parliament. The majority partner in the ruling coalition, GERB, confirmed the position of solidarity with the United Kingdom. The United Patriots insist that the topic be discussed by a coalition council. The BSP once again called for a hearing with the Prime Minister to be held.
Solidarity with the European family. Such a position was defended by GERB today. And the chair of GERB’s Parliamentary Group, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, said that otherwise our country could be isolated.
According to him, solidarity of words is not enough, but actions are also needed. But he did not answer whether this meant the expulsion of Russian diplomats.
The disparities in positions caused tensions between GERB and Ataka leader Volen Siderov.
Volen Siderov, leader of Ataka and chair of the United Patriots, minority partner in the ruling coalition said that Bulgaria needs to pursue a balanced policy. “No abrupt moves should be made, nor Russian diplomats should be expelled". These talks about solidarity as if a natural cataclysm has struck should stop," he said.
I respect every different opinion and I can not be angry with Volen Siderov, because that was declared during all the years in which he participated in politics as the leader of Ataka, Tsvetan Tsvetanov said.
Siderov did not want to comment in advance on the hypothesis whether Ataka would leave the coalition if expulsion of Russian diplomats is reached.
Deputy Prime minister Valeri Simeonov said that Bulgaria should show siolidarity, ”but on the other hand our position should be very careful and balanced. From this point of view, the position of the NFSB party is that, until there is evidence of a crime committed, it is not appropriate to take side. If there is a proven crime, we are not against expulsion.
The other partner in the United Patriots, the leader of IMRO, Krasimir Karakachanov, does not think that the disagreements will lead to instability in the coalition. Karakachanov pointed out that there are currently no data, oj the basis of which Russian diplomats to be expelled.
The socialists BSP again inisisted that the PM inform MPs about the actions related to the diplomatic scandal.
Last night, the Bulgarian ambassador to Moscow, Boiko Kotsev, returned to Sofia.
Boyko Kotzev - Ambassador of Bulgaria to Russia: I am here on the orders of Prime Minister Borisov for consultations. And in any case after the consultations I will answer all your questions.
On 30th of March, following the hearing of Ambassador Kotsev at the Security Council mereting, the next moves of the cabinet are expected to become clear.
