At least 33 people were killed as a fire swept through a hotel in north-eastern China, state media have reported. Quoting local officials, the Xinhua news agency said more than 100 people had been evacuated to safety from the Tiantan hotel in Harbin, after the fire broke out at about 1800 (1000 GMT). It said 10 people were taken to hospital, but they were all now out of danger. The Xinhua news agency said the blaze was extinguished in 22 minutes. It said the city authorities immediately ordered a thorough safety inspection. Harbin - situated about 1,300 kilometres (800 miles) north-east of Beijing - is the capital of Heilongjiang province, near the border with Russia.
