The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has launched pretrial proceedings into alleged abuse of office on behalf of Foreign Ministry staff, following accusations of corruption from the socialist opposition.

Earlier on Friday, socialist lawmaker and former Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin argued the institution had placed an order for an expensive communications system and servers at inflated prices.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hristo Angelichin denied the claims, saying his ministry's actions were in full accordance with the law and complied with requirements of public procurement legislation.
